Lancia Delta HF Integrale
The Delta HF Integrale: A Rally Legend for the Road
The Lancia Delta HF Integrale is arguably the most iconic evolution of the Delta range. Based on the Delta HF 4WD introduced in 1986, the first Integrale debuted in 1987 as a homologation special for the World Rally Championship. The name "Integrale" refers to its permanent all-wheel-drive system with a Ferguson viscous coupling and Torsen differential - a technical setup that made the Delta the dominant force in rallying.
Model history at a glance:
Delta HF Integrale (1987) - 2.0-litre turbo engine with 185 hp, flared wheel arches and a wider track
Delta HF Integrale 16V (1989) - Four-valve cylinder head, output increased to 200 hp
Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione (1991) - Revised suspension, updated aerodynamics, 210 hp
Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II (1993) - Final evolution with 215 hp, optimised Garrett turbocharger and modern engine management
With these cars, Lancia won the World Rally Championship (manufacturers' title) six times in a row from 1987 to 1992 - a streak that remains unmatched to this day. The road-going versions were always built in small numbers: only around 2,500 examples of the Evo II were produced, for instance.
The Integrale's enduring appeal lies in its combination of a compact body, brutal turbo power and an all-wheel-drive system that set new standards. The Delta HF Integrale is regarded as the last great high-performance Lancia and one of the most sought-after collector cars of its era.
