Application Notes

Use only brake fluid conforming to the manufacturer's specifications.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic and inevitably absorbs moisture from the environment. As a result, the boiling point steadily decreases. Under high thermal load and at a low boiling point, vapor bubbles may form in the brake system ? with the consequence of brake failure.

To maintain the functional safety of the brake system, the brake fluid must be replaced at the change intervals specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Regular brake fluid changes are also required to remove wear debris and dirt particles and to maintain corrosion protection within the brake system.

The functional expansion of modern brake systems with anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control (ASR) and electronic stability program (ESP) places increased demands on the brake fluid. Merely meeting the minimum requirements of common standards does not guarantee reliable interaction with modern brake systems. Regular testing ? for example using the ATE BFCS test device ? is recommended.
