The Bentley Turbo R, introduced in 1985 and produced until 1997, represented a significant evolution in Bentley's approach to luxury performance sedans. Building on the foundation of the Mulsanne Turbo, the Turbo R set new standards for performance, handling, and luxury. The "R" in its name stood for "Roadholding," reflecting its enhanced handling and performance capabilities. This model played a pivotal role in reshaping Bentley's image by combining exhilarating driving dynamics with unmatched luxury.

Features:

Engine: 8-cylinder, 90-degree V configuration, initially equipped with a Solex 4-barrel downdraught carburetor (Type 4A1), complemented by an aluminum-silicon alloy cylinder head.

Turbocharging and Fuel Injection: Featuring a Garrett AiResearch turbocharger (Type TO4B). From 1986, Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection was introduced, followed by Bosch K Motronic fuel injection and digital ignition in 1990, and eventually the Zytek EMS3 engine management system in 1995.

Transmission: Initially equipped with a 3-speed automatic gearbox, the system was upgraded in 1992 to a 4-speed automatic transmission, improving responsiveness and driving dynamics.

Suspension: Independent suspension with front and rear coil springs, ensuring a comfortable and stable ride. The rear suspension featured Girling hydraulic self-levelling ride control for enhanced stability.

Brakes: Ventilated disc brakes at the front and plain rear disc brakes. From 1986 onwards, anti-lock brakes (ABS) were included, improving safety and control during heavy braking.

Wheelbase and Dimensions: The standard wheelbase was 3,061 mm (120.5 inches). A long-wheelbase version was also available, measuring 3,161 mm (124.5 inches).

Tire Sizes: Initially fitted with 275/55VR15 tires, several options were made available over time: from 1986, 255/65VR15; from 1993, 255/60 ZR 16; and from 1994, 255/55WR17 tires.
