Alpine A110 Berlinette (1962 – 1977)

The original "Berlinette" was a lightweight, mid-engine sports car with rear-wheel drive.

  • Technical Basis: Backbone chassis (central tubular frame).

  • Brake System: Typical for sports cars of the era: Disc brakes (front), Drum brakes (rear).

  • Special Features: Due to the very low weight (approx. 700–800 kg / 1540–1760 lbs), the brake system was direct and unassisted (no servo). The rear drum brakes are maintenance-intensive.

  • Clutch: Mechanically operated single dry-plate clutch.

Alpine A310 (1971 – 1985) – The Transition to Modernity

The A310 replaced the A110. The first series (Phase 1) featured a four-cylinder engine, while the second series (Phase 2) received the legendary PRV V6.

Production & Engines

  • Phase 1 (1971 – 1976): 1.6L 4-cylinder (approx. 127 hp).

  • Phase 2 (1976 – 1985): 2.7L PRV V6 (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo), later 2.9L.

Technical Details – Brakes & Clutch

  • Brake System (Phase 1): Disc brakes all around. Vented discs at the front, solid discs at the rear.

    • Dimensions (front): Diameter 254 mm, Thickness 12 mm.

    • Mounting pattern: 3-bolt hub (typical for Alpine/Renault).

  • Brake System (Phase 2 / V6): Reinforced brake system (often derived from Renault 30 or Volvo 260). Larger calipers.

  • Clutch: K14 5-speed transmission. Hydraulically operated single dry-plate clutch.

  • Special Features: The A310 Phase 1 had no ABS; later Phase 2 models introduced it. For your webshop: Brake components are often specific to the 3-bolt hub.

Renault 5 Alpine (R5 Alpine / R5 Gordini) (1976 – 1980)

The rear-engined sports car based on the popular Renault 5 supermini.

  • Production Period: 1976 to 1980 (successor to the original R5 Alpine).

  • Engine: 1.4L (1397 cc) 4-cylinder with carburetors, later fuel injection (approx. 93 hp).

  • Brake System:

    • Front: Disc brakes (vented or solid depending on model year). Large diameter relative to vehicle weight.

    • Rear: Drum brakes.

  • Technology: The system uses a master cylinder with a vacuum brake booster (servo).

  • Clutch: Mechanically operated single dry-plate clutch.
